MISSION
The mission of Zora’s Cradle is to address the gaps in maternity health services that discriminate against individuals from lower socio-economic demographics in Kentucky and result in higher maternal and child mortality rates, by providing access to financial and health supports pre- and post-pregnancy. Our agency philosophy is “Helping Mothers To Restore, Redeem, and Thrive”.
The non-profit agency’s namesake, Zora, was born in June 2014. Zora was delivered preterm (6 months gestation) via emergency C-section due to her mother’s limited community-based resources, advocacy, social support, and housing options. Zora passed away 2 days following her birth. Zora’s Cradle strives to ensure that expectant mothers of all walks of life are supported throughout their pregnancy, with each newborn being welcomed into a loving environment.
We currently provide a plethora of services such as housing assistance, behavioral therapy, case management, and independent living skills to the community.
We also offer outpatient behavioral health services and classes (individual and group) to children, teens, and adults of all backgrounds. We operate a Milk Depot https://www.themilkbank.org/milk-depot that promotes community health by expanding the safe use of human milk for all babies, especially premature and ill infants. The Milk Depot is located within our Perinatal Resource Center, which offers free supplies (i.e. diapers, cribs, breast pumps, infant clothing) to all individuals/families in need, regardless of their income.
